I remember reading about how bluefin tuna were so abundant a few decades ago people would commonly spot them in boats and even swim with them but once the US became obsessed with japan they were overfished so badly that the areas where they were commonly seen are now devoid of bluefin.

The first Bluefin Tuna sale in Japan always goes for a ridiculous price, it’s kind of a tradition. The rest are still very expensive, but not nearly as much as that very first sale.

We huckleberry hunt in the mountains here in Idaho, I go every year at various times in late summer and into early fall, I have the best luck at or above 2500 to 5500 feet and being a US Forest Service employee I'm able to get to places that most people can't, mainly due to the fact that I cruise timber all summer long and can get to places where there are no roads and I have keys to closed and gated roads. For us, huckleberry picking can be a reasonably profitable pass time while you're in the woods anyway and have containers at hand. This season huckleberries were worth $22.00 a gallon.
Working in the forest year in and year out and, as I said before I have keys to closed and gated roads, you'll get to know the patterns of deer and elk migrations through out the year, consequently those of us who do hunt can fill our freezers with elk and venison every year.
I know that it seems like I got off topic but the game will be where the berries are, where you find berries you'll find the game.

humans are stupid. well, not the "native" but everyone else is stupid. farming tuna? get out of the ghetto, stop being a slave to old ideas like money... the entire world is 1 farm. our farm. until we stop letting people divide it up, make claims, and then set up their little get-rich operations, to pay tax, to hire big government, to drug you and enslave you...
o.k.? stop making garbage, stop being selfish and entitled. clean out the ocean of your garbage... and then you have all the tuna you want. or else. God will end you all... permanently this time.

That's funny, there has been an Australian company or two who have developed aquaculture-bred Southern Bluefin Tuna some years ago and the percentage of bluefin is increasing, although not as much as "ranched" blue-fin, where smaller fish are netted then put in feed-lots.

I hate tuna so, they are safe from me.
Truffles are over rated and to be honest, I tried them once without knowing it at an anniversary dinner I went to. I left most of the dish and it was only after I found out.
    Huckleberries are fantastic though.
I tried caviar in the early 90s. It was a one time deal as I thought it tasted vile. I know it wasn't on the list but worth a mention.

I was going to comment the exact same thing. Every time he mispronounces 'fungi' as 'fun-Ji' it is extremely jarring. I can get when some folks pronounce the 'I' at the end as either a 'ai' or 'ee' (the latter sounds weird but not too wrong), pronouncing the 'G' as a 'J' sound is just so deeply wrong. I can't tell if it's just a weird accent that I'm yet to hear anyone else have or if it's just some weird quirk the guy has.

Why can't humans ever just let nature work the way nature works?? Why do we have to be selfish and greedy? "Oh this fungus is really hard to grow, these berries, these fish (I'm sure these were just a couple examples out of many, many, many)--let's make them elite foods that only the rich afford to eat!"
How about, you don't live where that food grows? Huh, too bad. You better visit or move. Yes, I know that eliminates a lot of food choices--like I couldn't eat sushi since I don't live near the coast. It eliminates prickly pear, which I haven't had since I lived in the desert. That's life yo.

The auction price of the tuna on opening day doesn't reflect the market price of tuna in Japan at all. The often written about auction price of a bluefin tuna on opening day at Tuskiji market is a ceremonial price. All the buyer gets is bragging rights. They sell the tuna for normal prices at a steep loss. A still surprising yet more realistic price to pay for a 300lb bluefin tuna would be $12,000-$18,000.
There are plenty of good sustainable fish to eat besides bluefin tuna. At least currently.

You forgot to mention that bears love and need huckleberries. When you are picking huckleberries "never" do it alone, someone "always" needs to be watching for both grizzlies and black bears!!! Oh and by the way, where are you from in Montana? I live in Great Falls, Mt. Montana is also a great place to go morel mushroom picking. They grow best where there was a forest fire the previous year. Well anyway, I enjoy your informative videos--you do a really great job!!!!!

Or you could. Deal with it. With regulations. Keeping rare stuff rare and valuable and fish hunt cut only a sustainable amount. Also feed those pigs and deers and then shoot them cause that's better than growing pigs n cows in small enclosures.
